Rehabilitation And Support Services

A range of programs are available at our Morphett Street Office, with some services also offered at our Christies Beach and Murray Bridge sites:

  • A Bus Service to Cadell

This bus service has been running for many years and continues to provide the families and friends of prisoners incarcerated at a country prison the chance to visit with loved ones.

An “extreme weather policy” has been developed which, if necessary, would see an interruption to visits and therefore the bus service. OARS SA has worked closely with the Cadell Training Centre to ensure that all visitors are aware of the policy and disseminated the information to the ‘bus service provider’ so that they were aware of the necessity to check the weather forecast on days scheduled for visits to the prisons.

  • Partners of Prisoners

The Partners of Prisoners program was in operation from 1993 to 2010. It was commonly known as the POP program.

We are currently attempting to source funding to continue this valuable program.

  • Employment Services

This program provides intensive support and case management to disadvantaged jobseekers that are referred to our services by their Job Services Australia (JSA) Providers.

All of the referred participants face a number of ‘barriers’ to employment, eg mental health issues, homelessness, addiction issues, disability and literacy issues, and many of them have interacted with the criminal justice system.

  • Second Chance Employment NEtwork (SCENE)

Another initiative has been the SCENE “Second Chance Employers NEtwork” which is a register of employers that are prepared to interview jobseekers who have a criminal history/background The jobseekers referred to SCENE agree to disclose any past criminal convictions. The future employers receive ongoing support from the SCENE Business Development Coordinator and the successful jobseeker receives ongoing support from their case worker.

  • Emergency Assistance

Brief intervention, assessment, emergency assistance vouchers for clients that meet the criteria.

  • Advocacy

Providing information and support to enable clients to advocate for themselves.  Please see our Advocacy Brochure.
